Office 2007 Beta 2 Technical Refresh and Vista
Well Microsoft Office 2007 Beta 2 Technical Refresh is out and can be downloaded from here. Trying to install it on Windows Vista RC1 x64 is a nightmare
.
The install appears to go fine but comes up with “The installation of this package failed. Please see for more information.”. Now I have a none working Office suite on Vista. I suppose it’s what ya get for running Beta all over the place
.
There’s an MS KB about the problem but it’s a load of crap. There’s plenty of disk space everywhere and I’ve downloaded the 500Mb update twice. The temp area has been cleared and the log it creates has no errors in and ends with -
Property(S): MsiUISourceResOnly = 1
Property(S): Msix64 = 15
Property(S): ProWW = D:\Temp\OWPBFA0.tmp\ProWW.msp

Will keep looking :S.
x3650 Setup / Install
If any of you out there are trying to get your nice spanking new IBM x3650 server built with Windows … you’ll be getting a little stuck. IBM ain’t got their ServerGUIDE working on it yet so getting the ServeRAID 8k drivers on there is tricky. Esp. as they don’t have a floppy drive on it !
The solution is a USB floppy … and yes it does work.
macBook Pro Fault Mk I
Ooo dear our new macBook Pro has developed a fault already
. It’s only 2 months old and the mouse (tracker pad) button is clicking like a beast.
I guess that the connector pad thingy underneath is stuffed. The click still works but it’s a well irritating click. I suppose we’ll have to get in touch with Apple and get the bad boy repaired. Here’s another thought … maybe they can fix the toaster that it is ! Clocked up 97C today when in medium use !
If it was a cheep Dell laptop I suppose it wouldn’t matter as much. But nearly £2000 it should be perfect.
GPS Radio Problem
Follow up to the GPS Radio problem.
Traveling yesturday and I’m starting to sort of understand the daft HW6900 series GPS Radio Power issue. Ok I’m in the car with my HW6910 connected via Bluetooth to the car radio and the build in GPS working away on TomTom Navigator 5.
I recieve a call and the GPS is still working. The second the call is finished the GPS powers off ! But here’s the werid bit, a new call comes in and a few seconds later the GPS powers back up again. Drop the call and guess what it’s off again. Only way I’ve found to get it back again is to exit TTN5 and re-load it.
Now a software powered GPS power switch is all well and good if the software works correctly. But obviously it doesn’t
. Time to email HP and ask for tech support so they can include a fix in a future FW update.
Or does anyone have a software switch that can power the GPS radio on ? I’ve not found one yet.
Vista Progress
Well that’s a weekend of fiddling ready for tomorrow, work day. So far here’s what I’m missing / noticed -
- Creative Audgy 2 Drivers x64 – They install but just don’t appear to work.
- Activesync – Apparently it’s not needed but connect the HW6910 and nothing happens :S.
- Sync Tools – Wont install, I guess there’s something else in Vista that does the same job. Just need to track it down.
- Any codec pack – Not looked into this properly really yet but Media Player appears to crash when loading any DivX or Xvid stuff.
- Daemon Tools – They know it don’t work but that’s no help
.
Would love to get it working in Parrallels on my macBook Pro.
Vista RC1 is out
Well it’s out and installed on my main PC. I’m going to be doing everything via Vista now as XP is no longer installed.
Perfect install (had to do a clean one), Vista x64 Ultimate build 5600 is what I’m writing this with.
Will start installing everything in a mo and see what holds up and what doesn’t. I’ll post away my findings.
Adding Drivers to a Windows Setup CD
Well at work today we’ve recieve a new IBM server. It’s a very nice x3650 for a customer but there’s a but. It doesn’t come with a floppy drive or PS2 ports. Great news really as they’re hardly ever used anyway. But not acctualy in this case as there’s no way to get Windows on there as the server’s RAID drivers aren’t stored on the Windows CDs.
So the problem now is to get the SCSI drivers onto the Windows 2003 setup CD. It’s pretty much the same for Windows XP.
We spent ages looking around the net to get hold of a decent artical to show us how to add the drivers to the CD for boot. Well it wasn’t linked enough around the web so here it is now – MS KB288344
HP HW6910 Fault
Problem … problem … there’s something very funny going on with me PocketPC. GPS working and Bluetooth connected to the car, working lovely. When I’ve finished a phone call and the call gets dropped guess what, the GPS chip appears to power off !
What a pain in the ass !
No firmware update for it, but we’ll have to email HP as there’s no way this is right. Watch this space.
