Over the last few weeks out phone Exchange has been upgraded to the new BT 21C (21 Century Network). Since they’ve done that mess our ADSL is slowed down and sync takes 3 times as long. So here’s the stats of our home ADSL line.

We have 2 other ADSL lines and they’ve all had the same treatment. Each one now takes alot longer to sync and we’ve lost at least 1Mb of each line. The ISPs claim that it’s all to do with a new re-training of the line … what a load of rubbish. We’re over 3 weeks into the new exchange doofa and it’s not getting better. Just hope that this isn’t like this to stay ! !

Amazingly I just checked and found out that I’ve had cconnor.com since 1999-06-24. Wow that’s along time and most of that I’ve just used it for email
. Had a few websites on it from time to time but most have been junk.
Look some are even on way back machine, this one is from 2001 !
Great to see how much easier a fairly decent site is to make now. Thank goodness to WordPress and the like

Zen have released a new Office ADSL product. It’s 8Mb for £45 a month for with a massive 50Gb cap. Hang on can’t I get EXACTLY the same with no cap for £20 a month from Eclipse ? (Yes I know there’s an upload difference, but who’s seriously going to see that ?)
One day they’ll reliase that they’re loosing customers due to their daft capping. Their support forums are full of people saying goodbye because of their bandwidth caps.
We moved all our lines and most of our customers lines from Zen to Eclipse and got to say not noticing any speed differences
. Only massive cost savings and never having to worry about bandwidth issues.
? Zen your days are numbered ?

We all love Skype but it’s a pain when you tell it to leave your volumes alone and it fiddles with them anyway. Well in a blatent steel from a mates blog here’s the solution -
- Close Skype if its open.
- Open C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\Skype\YOURSKYPEACCOUNT\Config.xml, with your favourite text editor
- Find and edit the existing AGC element and change the 1 to a 0.
- Add a new AGC element as a child to the Call element; again it should have a value of 0.
- Save and close Config.xml.
- Open C:\Documents and Settings%USERNAME%\Application Data\Skype\Shared.xml, and add another AGC element as a child to VoiceEng element; again ensure that it has a value of 0.
- Restart Skype, and test using the echo123 service.

Domain name registars, most people don’t really care about them or think about them. They just register their .co.uk or .com and think nothing more of it. There are hundreds or even thousands of them out there and I tried a load over the last few years.
I currently use, Nettica and 123-Reg both great prices and both with the most important thing a domain host should offer, DNS Management. DNS Management is so important for people that that like proper control of their domains. You can set everything you want, MX, CNAME, A Record etc.
Used to use Freeparking, EasySpace and 1&1 but found their systems buggy or the customer service bad. If you want great DNS Management and good pricing then I’d opt for 123-Reg.
